About Katy, TX

Officially founded in 1896, Katy, TX is a growing city on the outskirts of Houston, TX. Formerly known as Cane Island, the city got its official name from the MKT Railroad Company. The railroad was colloquially known as “the K-T,” which, when spelled out, became Katy. The town grew up along the railroad and produced rice as its primary commodity crop.

As time marched on, the economy shifted from an agricultural one to one that shared more in the businesses and corporations that call Houston home. Today, there are numerous corporate headquarters in and around Katy, TX, including Igloo Corporation, Academy Sports and Outdoors, and BP America.

There is plenty to see and do in Katy, TX. Residents love the town’s many parks and community centers, including the Mary Jo Peckham Community Center and City of Katy Dog Park. The annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival celebrates the town’s heritage and is also quite popular.

Overall, Katy, TX is growing rapidly, and the future looks bright!
